The Yarmouth One Design Class Set for Centenary celebrations in 2010

The Yarmouth One Design Class, based at the Royal Solent Yacht Club in
> Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, is one of the oldest and most exclusive fleets
> of racing keelboats still racing in the Solent. This year sees this small,
> but perfectly formed class of just nine boats start its Centenary celebrations
> that will culminate in 2013.

DRAGON NOTHERN CHAMPIONSHIP 2010

The British Dragon Association is delighted to announce it will
hold its 2010 Northern Championship, supported by Aberdeen Asset Management, in
Abersoch. The event will be hosted by the South Caernarvonshire Yacht
Club from 18th -20th June. The winner will receive the
Paisley Quaich, (designed for celebratory whisky drinking) which was last
competed for on the River Forth in 2003.

24 hours on and the crews of both Spirit of Australia and Hull & Humber
are beginning to adjust to their change in circumstances. For Australian
skipper Brendan Hall, his move to the English entry, Hull & Humber has
been easier than he initially anticipated.

It has been a day of good news for the Clipper 09-10 fleet.
Hull & Humber skipper, Piers Dudin, has arrived in hospital in Japan where he has received surgery on his broken leg. He is in good spirits and is even reported to be learning a few words of Japanese. This morning he spoke with his parents and Clipper Race Manager, Lizzie Nicholas, following his operation. Lizzie says, "He immediately asked about his crew and how they are getting on." Piers is likely to remain in hospital in Japan for several more days before repatriation to the UK for further treatment.

SEAWAY NOTICE NO. 6 – 2010

96-Hour Pre-Entry Notification Required from Foreign Flagged Vessels
All foreign flagged vessels intending to transit the Seaway must submit a complete Notice of
Arrival (NOA) 96 hours prior to entering the Seaway at Call In Point 2 (CIP 2). The NOA
must be provided electronically following the USCG National Vessel Movement Center’s
(NVMC) procedures and using either a website (http://www.nvmc.uscg.gov), eXtensible
Markup Language format (XML schema), or InfoPath application.

Ecklund Wins Audi Melges 20 Bacardi Miami Sailing Week, Also Named 2010 Winter S

March 13, 2010 (Miami, Fla.) - Congratulations to Jeff Ecklund (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) on STAR, as he and his crew of Harry Melges and Morgan Reeser have won the Audi Melges 20 division of Bacardi's Miami Sailing Week, hosted in part by Coconut Grove Sailing Club (CGSC), supported by Shake-A-Leg Miami and Melges Performance Sailboats. It was the third act of the Miami Winter Series in which Ecklund is also champion. In second overall is Peter Keck (Lake Geneva, Wisc.) on M&M Sailing with Bill Ward and Sam Rogers as crew. Chuck Holzman (Farmington Hills, Mich.) on Flyer was third with crew members Scott Nixon and Pat Drummond.

Survey of Shipmasters
In 2010, a survey of shipmasters will be conducted, to gage progress and solicit opinions on
a number of key issues. This type of survey is carried out every four years.
Ocean vessels will receive a copy of the survey upon completing their inspection in
Montreal.

Mooring and Casting off In Locks
Masters of vessels transiting the Seaway are advised that they must have sufficient
competent crew members on board to properly handle the mooring lines and winches during
the lockage operation. Inadequately trained seamen are not to be assigned to locking
through duties. It is important that moorings be rigged in accordance with Seaway
Handbook and that instructions provided on the vessel's Ship Inspection Report be adhered
to (page 1 of the inspection report should be posted on the bridge and available for
Masters/Pilots use). Masters must ensure that crew members are alert and attentive to all
phases of the lockage procedure since the improper operation of mooring winches and the
careless handling of mooring lines can result in serious injury to lock and shipboard
personnel. Masters are required to note the following practices:
